Cotance

European leather for the world!

COTANCE represents the European Leather Industry in front of EU and UN institutions and bodies. It is a non-for-profit umbrella organisation gathering the leather producers’ associations of the EU and connecting with over 95% of all European tanneries. COTANCE develops active coordination policies in the areas of trade, environmental performance, social accountability, corporate social responsibility, sectoral governance issues such as transparency & traceability, animal welfare and deforestation, R&D+I as well as education & training and image & communication.

COTANCE is the employers’ side of the sector’s Social Partners at EU level.

COTANCE is a member of ICT, the International Council of Tanners and participates in GLCC, the Global Leather Cooperation Committee gathering the 3 international organisations of the leather industry ICT (Leather), ICHSLTA (Hides & Skins), IULTCS (Chemicals & Technology Suppliers).

COTANCE chairs the EU CheMI industries platform of REACH-related matters and cooperates ad hoc with the EU Footwear Technology Platform.

COTANCE’s Secretary General is the Chair of CEN TC 289 “Leather”, the standardization body for the leather industry, which develops test methods for the determination of chemicals in leather and tanning formulations, as well as physical and fastness test methods for leather and terminology and specification standards.

COTANCE is a member of the UNIDO Leather Panel, the FAO Sub-Group for hides & skins and a subscriber of the UNEP Declaration on Sustainable Production & Consumption. It cooperates with ILO on leather-relevant topics and with UNECE in the development of traceability and transparency standards for the leather value chain.


Alliance France Cuir

Alliance France Cuir is the confederation that energises and coordinates the commitments of the 21 federations that share the same passion for leather and its excellent craftsmanship. Since 1948, it has been supporting the French Leather Industry in addressing its challenges and enhancing its reputation.

CICUR

In addition to being a Source of Information and Promotion for the Tanning Sector and a Mandatory Consulting entity for the Three Levels of the Government: Federal, State and Municipal.

The Chamber of the Tannery Industry of the State of Guanajuato - CICUR, Represents and Defends the general and particular interests of its affiliated tanning companies, mainly those located in the State of Guanajuato; In addition to being a Source of Information and Promotion for the Tanning Sector and a Mandatory Consulting entity for the Three Levels of the Government: Federal, State and Municipal.


China Leather Industrial Association

CLIA is related to leather, footwear, leather garments, leather goods, fur and fur products, leather chemicals, leather machinery, leather hardware and other relative sectors.

Founded in 1988, with more than 1400 members, China Leather Industrial Association (CLIA) is a national trans-regional and cross-sectoral organization related to leather, footwear, leather garments, leather goods, fur and fur products, leather chemicals, leather machinery, leather hardware and other relative sectors. The members of CLIA consists of enterprises, universities, scientific research institutes, trading agencies and individuals. CLIA was elected as "National 5A Association" and "National Advanced Association" by Ministry of Civil Affairs,"National Advanced Collectives of Light Industry" by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and China Light Industry Council.

As a bridge connecting the government and its member enterprises, CLIA's objective is to: implement national policies and regulations; complete work entrusted by the government; reflect enterprise requests and intentions, and promote a healthy and stable development of the whole industry. CLIA is engaged in a range of productive work in the following areas: market research; work out industrial development plans; industrial standard examination and approval; implement a brand strategy, cultivate Special leather industrial zones and advocate scientific and technological progress.

Some other areas that CLIA is involved in are: organize technical training, leather exhibitions and brand shows; help enterprises to improve industrial market strategy at home and abroad; host industry publications website, provide information and advisory services; conduct intellectual property rights, establish regulations and agreements; industrial safety work, give safety warnings; participate in international exchanges, and promote international cooperation.

In the famous Chinese poetry book“The Book of Poetry” ,it is said that: “like the Sun on the rise, like the moon waxing to full size,Like the Southern Hill that is divine, you shall never fail or decline” .Today, China’ s Leather industry is in the same situation of being an eternally rising industry in a state of prosperity and development.To realize the goal of transforming China from a large nation to a power nation in leather industry,CLIA is working hard on scientific and technological development, structural adjustment and industrial upgrading, self innovation and modern industrialization to achieve comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of China’ s leather industry.


AQC

AQC is a Swiss-based international association of leather bracelets manufacturers for the watch industry.


AHSLEA

AHSLEA is the trade Association representing the major exporters of Australian cattle hides, calf skins, sheep and lamb skins, kangaroo skins and goat skins. The Association is a member of the International Council of Hides, Skins and Leather Traders’ Associations.

Australian Hide, Skin and Leather Exporters Association Inc (AHSLEA) is a voluntary trade Association whose membership comprises the major exporters of Australian cattle hides, calf skins, sheep and lamb skins, kangaroo skins and goat skins. The members handle product from raw through to finished material with the majority being raw through to wet blue material. Members account for approximately 90% of the Australian hide/skin production and in the vicinity of 85% of the exports of raw/wet blue hides/skins.

The Association, as the national peak body, is a member of the International Council of Hides, Skins and Leather Traders’ Associations (ICHSLTA) and attends the Annual Meetings and plays an active role in the business of the Council. The Association supports the use of the International Contracts for hides/skins and for finished leather and encourages members to use these contracts in their commercial operations.

Association members regularly exhibit at leather trade fairs around the world and AHSLEA organises an Australian pavilion providing meeting areas and booth facilities for its members at fairs where there is Australian interest. The Association has supported the All China Leather Exhibition Shanghai since its inception – many members making use of the pavilion facility provided by the Association at this Fair. The Association also supports other major leather fairs.

The Association’s members draw hides and skins from an Australian cattle herd of around 28 million head and from a sheep flock of around 75 million head, the numbers dependant on market and weather conditions.


ACEXPIEL

Founded in 1978, Acexpiel is the expert body that defends and promotes the quality, innovation and creativity of the Spanish tanning industry home and abroad through promotions and special actions, reinforcing and consolidating the prestige of the Spanish tanning sector.

One of the most representative trade associations in the world, Acexpiel is a member of ICT (International Council of Tanners) and COTANCE (Confederation of National Associations of Tanners and Dressers of the European Community) and a partner of LEATHER NATURALLY. Acexpiel is the strategic driving force, working alongside its members towards continuous economic, environmental and innovative sustainability.

The consolidated maturity of the individual Spanish tanneries and the shared common values of the individual companies is further reinforced through  the mediating role of Acexpiel, addressing current challenges and identified barriers by raising this issues with regional and central administrations, international bodies and policy makers.

Committed to the industry, the association has the overarching goal of addressing and supporting the industry by proactively approaching the following fields of common-shared interests:

  • Economic
  • Labour and labour law
  • Health & safety
  • Ethical code of conduct
  • Training, and
  • Development
